Project Overview: ACME
designed Dynamic Motion Seat Systems to provide the motion cues
for the RAH-66 Comanche Mission Simulator. The seats were
representative of the actual Comanche aircraft seat in appearance
as well as function.
ACME Services Used: Mechanical
Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering.
Project Details: The Dynamic Motion Seat System for the
RAH-66 Comanche mission simulator consisted of the motion seat, support electronics,
and software to provide the motion cues required during pilot training.
The seat was representative of the actual Comanche seat in appearance and function. This
included the relative position within the simulator, shape of the bucket, as
well as cushions and restraints. The Comanche seat adjustments were also
incorporated into the Dynamic Motion Seat. The side stick controller and
jettison handle mounting provisions were included in the design of the seat.
The Dynamic Motion Seat System provided motion cues in four axes of control,
one each for sway and surge and two for heave. The seat also incorporated
a sonic transducer for vibrations felt through the seat pan.
Covers and closeouts were designed to prevent access to moving parts when the
seat is in use, while providing access for maintenance. A weight-on-seat
switch and consent interlocks were used to ensure
safe operation of the seat.
