Technical Writing and Documentation Services
ACME's technical documentation professionals create and maintain
documentation at all levels to include:
Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals
The
O&M manual is the primary trainer support document. It
provides detailed information that enables maintenance support
staff to perform day-to-day tasks, to successfully operate
the trainer, to remedy discrepancies that may occur, and enable
the trainer to reach a very high operational availability.
Sample topics include:
• Trainer Facility
Interface
• Trainer Theory of Operation and Description
- Functional Overview
- Subsystem Descriptions
• Trainer Operating Procedures
- Trainer Initialization
- Modes of Operation
- Readiness Testing
- Normal and Emergency Shutdown
• Trainer Troubleshooting
- Fault Isolation
- Software Variable and Signal Dictionary
• Trainer Maintenance
- Scheduled (Preventative) Maintenance
- Corrective Maintenance
• Trainer Drawings
- Mechanical Assemblies
- Electrical Interconnection Diagrams
Other
documentation includes:
• Instructor/User Utilization Handbooks
• Engineering Specifications and Statements of Work
• Illustrated Parts Breakdowns
• Acceptance Test Procedures
• Software Design Documents
Government documentation efforts comply
with standard data item descriptions (DIDs) as well as best
commercial practices. Documentation can be delivered in print
and/or standard portable electronic formats.
Instructor/User
Utilization Handbooks
The Instructor Utilization Handbook
(IUH) contains information on how to operate the simulator. The
guide is primarily intended for daily use by the instructors
as well as by anyone needing information on the
operation of the trainer. Typically,
the ACME produced IUH contains the following topics:
- Trainer Introduction
and Description – This section
describes how the handbook aids the instructor during training
exercises and provides a brief summary of each handbook section.
Describes the trainer principle features and capabilities. Included
in this section are system design information, training capabilities,
modes of operation, and other supporting information.
- IOS Equipment
and Operation – This section identifies
the instructor's principle responsibilities and duties for
setting up and operating the trainer. Included are
descriptions of the 1) equipment at the IOS including the
displays and other data input devices, and 2) available IOS
functions, such as trainer initialization, malfunction control,
etc. used to support training. This section also describes
the individual display pages available to the instructor
and discusses the procedures for using them to support training. All
of the supplied display pages will be illustrated including
the cross-country, approach, and departure map displays.
Acceptance Test Procedures
An Acceptance Test Procedure identifies
the process of conducting, verifying, and rectifying acceptance
elements of the simulator. The procedure portion of the Acceptance
Test Plan/Procedure provides for step-by-step validation and
verification of all performance factors.
Software Design Documents
A Software Design Document describes all data, architectural,
interface and component-level design for ACME's software.
Engineering
Specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), and Illustrated
Parts Breakdowns (IPBs)
Government documentation efforts comply with standard data item descriptions
(DIDs) as well as best commercial practices. Documentation can be delivered in
print and/or standard portable electronic formats.
